The SmoothBeamTM laser is made and manufactured by Candela Laser Corporation in Wayland, MA. It is a 1450 nm device designed to target sebaceous gland. According to Candela, the laser can be used for skin rejuvenation, acne and acne scarring.Non-ablative lasers generally do not cause as much damage to the epidermis as ablative lasers do. They work by delivering energy to the deeper layers of the skin, without disrupting the surface. There are skin treatments that can help acne scars look better and feel smoother. Ask your doctor about them. The best treatment for you depends on how severe the scarring is.

Will laser skin resurfacing help with my deep, pitted acne scars?
It depends on the scars. Sometimes combining a full face laser resurfacing with dermabrasion of the deepest acne scars is the best approach. Other times, resurfacing by itself is not enough. Preparatory surgery such as scar excision or the use of fillers such as fat injections prior to dermabrasion may be needed to achieve an optimal result. Excision of multiple deep, pitted acne scars may be performed over several sessions. These must be evaluated on an individual basis.Treatment for acne scarring is difficult. Thus, the best treatment is prevention. For many, however, it is too late for prevention and the following treatments are available. Mechanical resurfacing of the skin (see section on Dermabrasion) involves the use of abrasive tools to remove the outer layers of the skin to produce an improved appearance. Dermabrasion is primarily used for the treatment of acne scarring. Superficial and deep techniques are available.

Foods for Homemade Facial Skin Care

by Herb B. Lewis

There are many foods that make great facial cleansers. Many foods have nutrients that are good for your skin. The best skin care is natural skin care and what is more natural than food.

You can make a great a natural facial skin care treatment out of oatmeal and honey. A natural skin care recipe using oatmeal and honey is to make a cup of oatmeal, just like you would for breakfast. While the oatmeal is thickening and cooling down, mix in 2 tablespoons of honey, you can also add 2 tablespoons of plain or strawberry yogurt and the juice squeezed from one lemon. Lemon contains natural astringents. This should form a good paste. Apply a layer to your face, avoiding the eyelids. If you get any in your eyes, rinse it out with warm water. After it dries wash it off with warm water, follow with cold water.

You can blend just about any fruit into oatmeal and use it as a mask. Be sure you use organic ingredients whenever possible and you are not allergic to it. Be sure the oatmeal has cooled down before you put it on your face. You can add any of the food listed above. Some other ideas are avocado oil, olive oil, any fruit yogurt and just about any essential oil. Always use essential oils in moderation and never

Green tea has detoxifying properties and it is loaded with antioxidants. Use the best tea you can find and steep it long enough to do some good, do not let it boil. I like a loose-leaf tea; they are stronger than tea bags. The green teas from Chinese herb shops often have the best selection. I discover a new green tea every time I go into one. You do not have to do a good job straining the brew, some leaf in the oatmeal is good. As with anything you are going to smear on your skin you want to start with a small amount, test a little to make sure you do not have a reaction to it. Reactions do not happen often but you still want to do this with everything.

Avocado is a fruit because it has a stone. Avocado is loaded with vitamins A, C, E, iron, potassium, niacin, lecithin, pantothenic acid and protein not usually found in a fruit. It also has heart healthy monounsaturated fat that will not increase your bad cholesterol. Avocado oil is classed as a vegetable oil. It makes a rich, deep penetrating oil. Just by itself it makes a great dry skin mask.

Homemade skin care does not get any simpler. Carefully cut your avocado in half and remove the pit with a spoon. Spoon the good parts out into a bowl. Your avocado can now be mashed using a fork, blender, potato masher, food processor or your hands. Mash it up and smear it on. Leave it on for about 20 minutes then rinse it off with water. Avocado perishes fast when exposed to the air. You can squeeze lemon juice over the remainder and keep in the refrigerator but avocado is best used while it is fresh. The best thing to do is smear the leftovers on your chest and arms. Let it dry then soak in the bath to wash it off. After you add the lemon juice it can be a bit tough on sensitive skin but it makes a great natural skin care astringent.

Watermelon juice makes one of the best skin care products ever. It cleans, re-hydrates and exfoliates skin, leaving it fresh and gorgeous. Crush up a slice of watermelon and apply it over your face, neck, arms and anywhere you like. Leave it on for 20 minutes or more. Rinse the juice off using warm water, splash your face and neck with cold water to close your pores. Your face will feel fresh and clean. The pulp has fiber that will scrub toxins out of your pours.

To close pores try rubbing your skin with cold watermelon juice with pulp. You can add a cup of mint tea for an uplifting mix. For oily skin, mix chickpea powder with the juice and pulp. The chickpea powder will make a watermelon paste that will soak up the oil in your skin. Let it dry then wash it off.

Another recipe for oily skin is to take half cup chickpea powder, one teaspoon of turmeric powder and half a cup of organic milk. Mix it up. Apply this paste all over the forehead, face and neck. Wait a few minutes and wash it off. The chickpea powder absorbs the oil and the milk nourishes your skin.

Aloe vera is thought to be one of the best natural skin care ingredients both for the insides and outsides. Smear it on your skin and drink it with juice. Aloe vera is a complex combination of some 300 ingredients including polysaccharides, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, lignins, saponins and anthraquinones. The inner gel has been used for ever to soothe skin, heal cuts, sooth sunburns and keep people regular. Aloe vera can be toxic in excess, over doing it can include diarrhea, hepatitis and kidney dysfunction. Follow the dosage on the bottle, just because a normal dose is good does not mean an over dose is better.

Natural skin care is an experiment, try new things and see what works for you.

Products for Hair Loss: Hair Loss Explained

by David U. Goodman

Are you losing your hair prematurely? Many different conditions can cause hair loss. Sometimes it is due to infections, emotional stress, physical injury or major surgery. Other times hair loss can be attributed to thyroid disease, prescription drugs or poor diet. Whatever the cause is, premature hair loss can be distressing, but there is something that you can do about it.

Androgenic Alopecia is by far the most frequent cause of hair loss in both men and women. It appears as Male Pattern Baldness in men and thinning over the entire scalp in women. Hair loss isn’t just limited to the scalp; it can also include the entire body. Androgenic Alopecia is the result of the degeneration of hair follicles that are responsible for generating new hairs.

If a man experiences genetic baldness it is not necessarily caused by premature hair loss. It is however caused by the body not being able to produce new hairs. The signs of male genetic baldness is a receding hairline, thinning around the crown, and bald spots. Because of hereditary genes, males who produce testosterones are most likely to experience baldness.

Hair loss can also occur in women. In some cases childbirth or medications such as contraceptives are responsible for the hair loss, but in the vast majority of cases it is a result of hormonal activity in the body. Believe it or not, women produce testosterone as well as men, but not in the same quantity. Hair loss in women is most often related to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the bloodstream, a byproduct of testosterone. This is very common, and also very treatable with a quality hair loss prevention product such as Provillus.

In pregnant women the normal process of shedding hair is diminished. After childbirth shedding then starts to accelerate, and can be alarming to a new mother! Other causes of hair loss in women and children, much less prevalent than Androgenic Alopecia, are thyroid conditions, acne medications and kidney or liver disease. Again, these are less common - once ruled out, you can usually attribute hair loss to the genetic process of Androgenic Alopecia.

Even though hair sheds 50 to 100 hairs a day, scalp hair grows at about 6 inches per year. Hair is made up of protein which is required to help produce normal hair. Illnesses like thyroid disease, kidney and liver, cancer and lupus causes hair loss. Medications like Lithium, diet pills with amphetamines, and chemotherapy drugs are major risks of hair loss too.

Alopecia Areata is a skin disease that causes hair loss on the scalp and other places on the body. Trichotillomania, a disorder that results in pulling on the hair also causes hair loss. People with eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia suffer hair loss. Chemically treated hair and hairstyles worn too tight damages the hair follicles that causes the hair to thin.

If you are like most people, you can rule out most of the less prevalent hair loss conditions listed above. A quick visit to your physician can help establish that a serious underlying medical condition is not at the root of your hair loss. Most of us find that Androgenic Alopecia is the culprit, and believe it or not this is fortunate. Androgenic Alopecia is a very treatable condition. If this is true for you, you owe it to yourself to find a good hair loss treatment to stop hair loss and regrow hair. You should do it as soon as possible, to save the hair that you have now and to reverse the hair loss process as soon as possible. Many products are available on the market; one product - Provillus - has proven the number one solution for both men and women for stopping and reversing hair loss.

How the Main Types of Severe Acne Affect People

by George Thomas

It is not always that a person gets a severe outbreak of acne. But a person may suffer any of the three major forms of severe acne. The severe types of acne are of three main types namely Acne conglobata, Acne fulminans and Gram-negative folliculitis. These are the most sever acne forms which wreak havoc on the faces and minds of the individuals experiencing them. A right and timely diagnosis and identification of the acne is important to treat and control the infection.

Acne conglobata

It is a very severe form of acne. In this type of acne, initially blackheads form, then they spread all over the face. Initially blackheads form, than they spread all over the face. These blackheads have small-inflamed nodules besides them. These nodules grow in size and may burst open as well. On healing they cause scars. The nodules, if ulcerating cause lot of distress and pain. Affecting the age group of 18 - 30, Acne conglobata generally affects the males.

Besides affecting the face, acne conglobata also affects the trunk i.e. chest, back, upper arms, and also the buttocks and thighs. It is caused by the deterioration of papules and pustules. Some cases of acne conglobata were through the flare up of acne, which were lying unerupted for a long time. Antibiotics and Isotretinoin is the suggested course of treatment for acne conglobata.

Another type of severe acne is Acne fulminans. It is a more severe form of Acne conglobata. Acne fuminans wreaks much more havoc. Not only is the acne ulcerating but also it is accompanied by fever. This kind of acne causes ill health with joint pains. It also causes an increase in the white blood cell count, thus aggravating the condition. Intake of the hormone testosterone has been linked to the outbreaks of Acne fulminans. The best treatment for Acne fulminans is antibiotics with Isotretinoin, steroids and most importantly anti inflammation medication such as aspirin.

Another major form of severe acne is the Gram-negative folliculitis. Bacteria cause this kind; they can be Pseudomonas aerugniosa and E.coli. This severe form of acne affects the hair follicles besides the pores. The hair follicles become inflamed and infected with the bacteria. He face has eruptions of pus filled pustules. The scars are marked. These kinds of acne cause lot of pain in the region. Gram-negative folliculitis is mainly caused by the use of topical antibiotics and also by tetracycline. The best course of treatment for Gram-negative folliculitis is Isotretinoin along with specific antibiotic.

Using Almonds For Your Skin

free skin reportEven in today’s age of massive commercial skin care products and preparations, nothing really beats the effectiveness of natural products and their qualities. Almonds are one such rich source of nourishment, which are yet to be surpassed by any similar product of the commercial nature.

To begin with, almonds are known to have an extremely soothing effect on the skin. Especially for elderly people, almonds come as a boon as they have a very gentle tightening effect on the skin. In fact, quite a few of the face creams have almonds as one of the main ingredients.

Apart from having a soothing effect, almonds are also known to be a mild belching agent. Oh No! I’m Too Old For Acne

Adult acne is no joke. Many people experience acne during their teenage years and expect to “grow” out of it in their 20’s and have nice clear skin. It does not seem fair that acne can show it’s ugly heads, excuse the pun, once we become adults. In fact adult acne can be prevalent from the 20’s right up until old age.

The chief reason that acne can appear during your adult years a well as when you were a teenager is that the root cause of acne is an overproduction of sebum due to hormonal imbalance. The hair follicle glands produce sebum and when too much is produced the hair follicles become clogged. Bacteria feed off the sebum and infects the follicle causing a pimple.

Hormonal imbalance can occur at different times during your life such as pregnancy, menopause and during your senior years, causing adult acne.  It is quite a shock to experience adult acne but luckily most types of acne are easily treated. Acne treatments usually focus on unclogging pores and killing bacteria or controlling hormones. An effective natural acne treatment is Acnezine, with an antioxidant formula for teenage or adult acne. http://topskincarehub.com/acnezine.html

There are many ways to treat acne. Acne treatments range from controlling hormones to unclogging pores to killing the bacteria that infects hair follicles.  Most treatments usually focus on unclogging pores and killing bacteria; however the pill or birth control is sometimes prescribed to women by doctors or dermatologist to control hormones and lower the incidence or severity of acne.

For many women the birth control pill has been found to control hormones and improve the condition to some extent. You should consult a dermatologist for a correct diagnosis and to determine if a birth control pill prescription is the right treatment for you.
