The bedcovers or sheets many sleep on can also cause them to itch or feel irritated throughout the nighttime. They will awaken to skin that may feel itchy, burning or chaff. The thing to do is to avoid having contact with anything that is made of polyester. Change the bedding made of another fabric that will hopefully do better. Visit Stop Allergic Reactions

More Pain in the You-Know-What

There’s a diagnosis called Lumbar Spinal Stenosis.  It’s a fancy name for a spine that has a narrowing channel which squeezes the nerves.  These nerves lead to your butt and your legs, so there can be considerable pain.  There’s lot of reasons why the spinal canal can be too narrow.  For one thing, you can be born that way.  Or it can simply be due to wear and tear over the years. Disc bulges are another culprit.  When a disc bulges and the vertebrae shift, the shape of the spinal canal can change.

This diagnosis isn’t life threatening, but it means you probably have pain in your rear which makes it hard to walk for any distance.  Leaning at the waist usually relieves the pain, but it’s an uncomfortable position.  The normal treatment suggestions for this diagnosis include exercise, steroid injections or even surgery.  Surgery is always an absolute last choice though.

I “Think” Myself Into An Anxiety Attack

It seems odd, but you can actually think yourself into an anxiety attack.  But if this is true, then you should be able to think yourself out of one.  Your thoughts are what control your reactions to situations.  You can choose to deal with a situation in a calm and rational manner, or you can let anxiety take hold.  Everyone has qualities that make them very special, but anxiety can mask those capabilities.  When you’re overcome with fear about something, it leads to inaction.

By learning to change your anxiety plagued thoughts to relaxing thoughts, the panic attacks and physical reactions can actually be controlled.  The feeling will be one of release.  Anxiety can make you feel as if you’re suffocating and losing control.  By having positive thoughts you can control your reactions and begin to live the life you’re entitled to live.  You can even learn to do this on your own by mastering the power of positive self-talk.

Behavior Modification Techniques That Work

When therapists and psychologists attempt to change or alter someone’s personality, they often use behavior modification techniques to make the transition more lasting and effective.

Behavior modification is when a specific kind of behavior (usually negative) is modified or changed in some way. There are different kinds of behavior modification techniques that are used. These behavior modification techniques are some sort of therapy. In order for these therapies to work properly, the behaviors involved need to be understood. For them to be understood correctly, they need to be observed and assessed before the behavior modification begins. This is referred to as a functional assessment.

The method of functional assessment that is most often used is the ABC approach, a method in which they make observations bases on Antecedents, Behaviors and Consequences. What these mean are “What happened before a certain behavior took place?”, “What was the behavior like?”, and “What happens right after the behavior?” Once these observations have been made consistently with the same results, specifically on the Antecedents and Consequences, they can decide on a course of action to eliminate the bad behavior. The usual course of action is some sorts of intervention to alter modify the behavior. The behavior modification techniques are usually aimed at a specific behavioral issue.

Therapy cannot be effective unless the behaviors to be changed are understood within a specific context. Therefore, a functional assessment is needed before performing behavior modification. One of the most simple yet effective methods of functional assessment is called the “ABC” approach, where observations are made on Antecedents, Behaviors, and Consequences. In other words, “What comes directly before the behavior?”, “What does the behavior look like?”, and “What comes directly after the behavior?” Once enough observations are made, the data are analyzed and patterns are identified. If there are consistent antecedents and/or consequences, then an intervention should target them in order to increase or decrease the target behavior. Many techniques in this therapy are specific techniques aimed at specific issues. Read the rest of this entry »

Yoga for the Faint-Hearted

To those who have never tried yoga, it may seem a daunting task. Scantily clad men and women with the ability to contort their body in seemingly impossible positions may be enough to put people off before they even attempt to try any of the postures.

Yoga is one of the oldest systems of self-development and its gentle approach can help even the most inflexible of bodies to gently yield and limber up. The key to Hatha yoga is that it is non-competitive and progress comes through practice rather than forcing the body into extreme positions when it’s not ready. Yoga is more than an exercise regime; those who study this discipline say that it simply becomes a way of life.

The effects are noticeable too. Stronger muscles, greater flexibility and an inner calm cannot help but be projected outwards. Family and friends may not be able to pinpoint the difference but they will gradually notice that there is something different. Read the rest of this entry »

The Truth About Hair Loss Alopecia

Hair Loss Alopecia is characterized by a receding hair line and baldness on the top of head. Women, on the other hand, do not go entirely bald even if their hair loss is severe. Instead, hair loss is spread out evenly over their entire scalp.

Hormones play the dominant role when talking about Androgenetic Alopecia. Simply put, both men and women produce testosterone.

Testosterone can be converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) with the aid of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. DHT shrinks hair follicles causing the membranes in the scalp to thicken, become in-elastic and restrict blood flow. This causes the hair follicles to atrophy. As a result, when a hair does fall out, it is not replaced.

Needless to say, men produce more testosterone than women and experience more hair loss.

While Androgenetic Alopecia is the number one reason why individuals experience hair loss, it is not the only one. Medical conditions such as hypothyroidism, ringworm and fungal infections can cause hair loss.

Certain medications such as blood thinners, gout medication, birth control pills and too much vitamin A can cause sudden or abnormal hair loss as can following a crash diet, sudden hormonal changes, chemotherapy and radiation. Read the rest of this entry »

Oh No! I’m Too Old For Acne

Adult acne is no joke. Many people experience acne during their teenage years and expect to “grow” out of it in their 20’s and have nice clear skin. It does not seem fair that acne can show it’s ugly heads, excuse the pun, once we become adults. In fact adult acne can be prevalent from the 20’s right up until old age.

The chief reason that acne can appear during your adult years a well as when you were a teenager is that the root cause of acne is an overproduction of sebum due to hormonal imbalance. The hair follicle glands produce sebum and when too much is produced the hair follicles become clogged. Bacteria feed off the sebum and infects the follicle causing a pimple.

Hormonal imbalance can occur at different times during your life such as pregnancy, menopause and during your senior years, causing adult acne.  It is quite a shock to experience adult acne but luckily most types of acne are easily treated. Acne treatments usually focus on unclogging pores and killing bacteria or controlling hormones. An effective natural acne treatment is Acnezine, with an antioxidant formula for teenage or adult acne. http://topskincarehub.com/acnezine.html

There are many ways to treat acne. Acne treatments range from controlling hormones to unclogging pores to killing the bacteria that infects hair follicles.  Most treatments usually focus on unclogging pores and killing bacteria; however the pill or birth control is sometimes prescribed to women by doctors or dermatologist to control hormones and lower the incidence or severity of acne.

For many women the birth control pill has been found to control hormones and improve the condition to some extent. You should consult a dermatologist for a correct diagnosis and to determine if a birth control pill prescription is the right treatment for you.
